System Requirements

I find that my oldest PC, 256M memory, 1.4 Ghz speed, and a 40G hard drive runs Ubuntu decently, (installing the light version of Ubuntu), otherwise I recommend 512M to 1G. It’s also best to find out first how well Linux will recognize your hardware. You can determine this by running a live Linux distro first. Knoppix is a good live distro, the dvd is considerably more up to date (March 2008, versus January 2007 for the cd). I did find however, that Knoppix has the edge on hardware detection.
