Installation of Ubuntu is quite easy.  Put the install CD in your drive and reboot.  You basically play twenty questions.  I found thinking about the questions, and answering them is fairly simple.

keyboard (I chose to tell the procedure that it’s a US keyboard)

choose mirror, to get the latest installation packages (one physically near you)

clock setup

timezone setup

partition your hard drive

install your base packages (I chose a desktop package – ok for most users)

set up user name and password

install bootloader, GRUB or LILO

All told, allow at least two hours for this, think about your answers, and don’t panic.

At the end, your installation CD will be ejected, and you can reboot to a working Ubuntu system!
