Modifying my Printer

After my last Debian install, I found that the printer, an Epson Stylus Color 740, was printing in black only.  I got full color print by the following steps:

1/ I ran synaptic and installed cups-driver-gutenprint.  This is a suite of printer drivers that can be used with CUPS, Common UNIX Printing System, whic controls printing on most Linux distros.

2/ I ran iceweasel (firefox) and entered the url http://localhost:631/.  This is the administration interface, running on port 631.  I then chose to modify my printer, and selected the appropriate gutenprint driver, and got a color test page – dead easy.

The next step is fixing my sound.
