At last!!! I finally got Debian downloaded and installed! I first chose the Calgary (Alberta, Canada) mirror (I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada), so it’s about half a continent away. It would have taken about a day, so I cancelled, and restarted, choosing the York University mirror, here in Toronto. It went through MUCH quicker, under a half-hour. It looks like the problem was selecting a reliable mirror.
Unfortunately, I have a problem with Gnome now, so I had to start an Xterm session. I’ll be taking a look at Xorg and the Gnome config files in my home directory.
